Terry Greenwood – Child Molesting Sunday School Teacher

Police have arrested a Chandler Sunday school teacher on suspicion of molesting a 5-year-old girl while at the church, reports show.

Police say Terry Greenwood, 62, a Chandler United Methodist Church Sunday school teacher, told them that he molested the girl and made her perform oral sex, police reports show.

Greenwood is being held without bond in Maricopa County Jail.

The girl’s mother heard her daughter talking about the sexual acts, she said in a police report.

During a police interview, the girl detailed the contact she said she had with Greenwood and said the incidents happened more than once at the church, reports show.

In a police-recorded phone interview with the victim’s mother, Greenwood admitted exposing himself to her daughter twice, and said he made a mistake and he was ashamed of it, reports show.

Greenwood told her he blamed his actions on medication he was taking for high blood pressure, that he has erectile dysfunction and mental problems, the police report shows.

On Dec. 21, police arrested Greenwood, also an employee at a Chandler Paradise Bakery, on suspicion of child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor and indecent exposure.

Greenwood admitted to touching the girl inappropriately on Dec. 9, then oral sex and exposing himself on Dec. 12 in an empty classroom and then in an art room.

Greenwood told police “he knew he could take advantage of her because of her age, she trusted him and she would not tell because she was always so quiet,” Chandler Detective John Beekman wrote in the report. “Terry admitted that since he felt he got away with it that first Sunday, it emboldened him to do it again the following Sunday.”

Before the alleged molestation, he told police he also tried to touch other girls in December in the class. Greenwood tried to put his hand under their dresses and they pushed his hand away, he told police.

According to a police interview, Greenwood said that months earlier he also tried to inappropriately touch friends of his 11-year-old daughter.

Greenwood, a married father of two, said he was ashamed of what he has done, the report said, but became curious after viewing child pornography and then felt “titillated and sexually aroused” when touching or trying to touch the young girls.

“Terry eventually admitted that he knew it would be easier to get this feeling with a young child he could take advantage of and that trusted him, than trying to find an adult woman or woman near his age,” Beekman wrote.

At least one other victim has come forward, according to the report.

Church officials sent out information to their parishioners about Greenwood, prompting another victim to call police with another possible case against Greenwood, the police report shows.

Calls to the church Monday afternoon were not immediately returned.

Detectives are investigating the case, said Detective David Ramer, a Chandler police spokesman.

Police Release Sketch of Accused Child Predator

INDIANAPOLIS – Metro detectives now have a better idea of who they’re looking for in two attempted abduction cases. It’s all thanks to a detailed description from two girls.

“She did a very good job not only of giving such detail but also in getting herself out of harm’s way by escaping from this car,” said Sgt. Paul Thompson of a 10-year-old girl who doesn’t want to be identified.

The girl says just before 8 a.m., December 18th, while she waited for her school bus at 35th Street and Sherman Avenue, a man tried to kidnap her.

“This guy knew that she was a child. She had on an IPS uniform. She was standing on a bus stop,” said the victim’s mother.

The mother, who also wants to remain anonymous, called police right away.

The night 24-Hour news 8 aired the story, another mother called police with a similar story about her daughter.

This time the victim was a few years older and it happened in the 2400 block of Wheeler Street.

They didn’t want their identities revealed either.

“I don’t think my daughter could have done a better job of remembering details,” said the second victim’s mother.

Police say details given by both girls led to a recently released sketch, which includes a distinct scar.

“That’s under his left eye. It’s a long scar. Starts just below the eye and continues down to his mouth. There is also a slight separation in the upper front teeth,” said Thompson.

Another thing the two girls noticed was the car the suspect used. They say it was a maroon or red colored 90’s model Cadillac.

Police say anyone with information on this case should call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.

Wanted – Predator Caught on Camera

Police want to question a man caught on surveillance video inside the West Ashley Wal-Mart store and who they say fondled a young girl.

The man apparently drove a tan-colored car into the store’s parking, and then entered the store. It’s inside the store, where police say, he walked up behind a young girl, grabbed her by the waist and then groped her rear.

Police say this guy didn’t talk to the victim and just walked away without hurting her. They hope some one will recognize this possible predator.

If you recognize this suspect, call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.

Tarek Baroody – Sex Offender – Absconder

JACKSONVILLE, FL — With a click of a few keys, Claudio Digregorio says his heart just dropped.

“At first, it was hard for my wife and I to just sit there and look at his face,” says Digregorio.

It was the face of a sex offender by the name of Tarek Baroody.

Convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 15-years-old in 2004, Baroody was released from prison three months ago.

According to the Department of Correction’s web site, Baroody listed a Mandarin home as the place where he was going to live after being released from prison.

It is the same address where Digregorio, his wife, and his son call home. The only problem is Baroody has never lived at the home.

“It made me very, very angry,” says Digregorio. Their address is attached to a sex offender. They are also receiving Baroody’s mail, noting he is a sex offender and he needs to confirm his address.

The Digregorios have called FDLE demanding answers.

“My concern is I feel they are just letting people out and not really checking to see where they are going,” says Digregorio.

Since he alerted police to the mixup, his address has been taken off the sex offender web site.

The web site says that Baroody has absconded or isn’t living where he says he was.

Digregorio says he just wants his name cleared and Baroody found. “I feel like I have to go through all kinds of ridiculous things to get my name cleared because this gentleman gave my address out.”

Digregorio says he does know the sex offender. Years ago, Baroody worked for him, but he has not seen or heard from Baroody since he left prison.

First Coast News has contacted the FDLE to find out how this could have happened. We are still waiting for those answers.

Ransome Lee Moody – Repeat Sex Offender

In October, probation officials went to court, asking Holzberg to lift the order, saying no program exists for someone like Moody, who officials say “continues to present a high degree of risk of sexually assaultive behavior.” Officials consider him so dangerous that Moody has been denied admission to sex-offender programs in Connecticut and in seven other states. Counselors have testified that he’s virtually untreatable.

A convicted rapist who was released from prison in August after serving 30 years for three rapes in Middletown was back in custody Monday, with bail set at $1 million.

Details of the arrest Saturday of Ransome Lee Moody, 50, by New Haven police were not released Monday, but law enforcement sources said Moody was charged with disorderly conduct and violation of probation.

A Superior Court judge during a hearing Monday in New Haven raised Moody’s bail to $1 million. He was being held late Monday at the New Haven Correctional Center. He had been staying at a drug-treatment program in the Fair Haven section of New Haven.

Since his release, Moody has been the subject of a handful of frustrating court hearings aimed at dealing with housing and treatment issues for him since probation officials briefly lost track of him in Middletown on Sept. 26.

Moody, a career criminal, was not arrested after the September incident. Police found him at a Middletown hospital, where he had sought help for suicidal thoughts. He told one official that he wanted to “end it” by either hurting himself or someone else. But the search for Moody sparked concern among law enforcement authorities familiar with Moody’s brutal crimes and his history of probation violations.

After getting out of prison, Moody, who is indigent, lived in homeless shelters in Hartford and New Haven. He has not been admitted to a mental health facility because no psychiatric evidence exists that he is a danger. And probation officers have not been able to find a residential sex offender treatment program for Moody, an order imposed on him by Judge Robert L. Holzberg during a probation violation hearing in July 2004.

Counselors have testified that he’s virtually untreatable.

At a Nov. 15 court hearing in Middletown, Holzberg ordered that Moody remain in the New Haven drug rehabilitation program under 24-hour supervision while officials explored a transfer to a sober house.

At a follow-up hearing Dec. 19, a probation officer testified that four sober houses in New Haven and Hartford refused to admit Moody. Management at the homes said they were not equipped to deal with registered sex offenders, and residents of the homes, who are recovering substance abusers who work and share housekeeping tasks, voted against taking Moody in.

The judge urged officials to arrange mental health counseling and line up financial assistance for Moody as soon as possible. Officials have said they are working to get Social Security or rental assistance benefits for Moody so he can live independently.

It was not known late Monday how Moody’s latest arrest — his fourth violation of probation — would affect the recent court hearings. The judge on Monday transferred the New Haven case to Middletown, where Moody is scheduled to appear on Thursday.
