Benjamin Paul Green – Whining Internet Predator gets only 12 years

A convicted Internet predator who was planning to drink alcohol and have sex with a 14-year-old girl will spend the next 12 years in prison.

An Aiken County jury took less than an hour to convict Benjamin Paul Green, IV, 29, of Grey’s Inn Road in Columbia of attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor and attempted solicitation of a minor.

Green sobbed, holding his clasped hands to his forehead as Judge Doyet A. “Jack” Early Jr. pronounced sentence. Then, Green, a father of two, fell forward to the bar before he was removed from the courtroom yelling “But, I have babies.”

The defendant engaged in an online chat with an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office investigator who was fishing for predators under the username “LittleMandy14SC.”

After a sexually explicit conversation in which the “girl” agreed to meet for sex, Green hoped in his two-door Oldsmobile and with a bottle of liquor, condoms and a sexual drug supplement, drove an hour to Beech Island.

“For the defendant, the Internet was a doorway into little Mandy,” Assistant Attorney General Suzanne Ringler said in closing. “The defendant intended to walk through it and into little Mandy’s bedroom.”

When he arrived, Green was arrested by three Aiken County investigators.

Green’s computer was seized. Pictures of himself that he had sent to the “girl,” including two photos of his genitals, where found on his computer. Further analysis showed a previous chat with a 17-year-old in which meeting for sex was discussed and Green told her “I got in trouble before, so I’m scared.”

As a defense, attorney Michael McMullen called the woman whose picture was used on the profile of “LittleMandy14SC.” Taken when she was 24, McMullen stressed his client was meeting someone as old as in the picture.

In the chat, however, Green acknowledged the age of the “girl” on several occasions.

In a rambling, disjointed closing, McMullen moved tangentially around the facts and attacked the law itself – which he was rebuked for several times by Early.

McMullen blamed the chat provider, Yahoo.com, for allowing kids on their sites and also claimed all of the chat was fantasy.

“This was no fantasy. He brought his condoms, he brought his liquor, he brought his supplements to make sure it happened,” Ringler said. “He had the whole evening planned.”

“The evidence was overwhelming, way beyond reasonable doubt,” Early said at sentencing. “We have to protect our children… Thank goodness we have this task force that is able to prevent this type of crime.”

Jason Newsom – MySpace Predator – From behind Prison Walls

A convicted child molester is reaching out to his victims from behind prison bars.

Jason Newsom, 38, was convicted of sexually abusing four boys at his New Caney wildlife farm several years ago. He was sentenced to twenty years in prison.

Kim’s son was just 15 when he was molested by Newsom. She wants her name kept private to protect her now 20-year-old son.

“I’m not an angry person, but for the first time in my life I wanted someone dead,” she said. “My son went from being a very happy child to having anger issues.”

Newsom isn’t allowed to contact any of his victims, but he has.

But earlier this year, Kim’s family received a letter of apology from Newsom despite signing up for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s non-correspondence list. That means she should not be contacted by her son’s attacker ever.

“That’s violating us all over again,” she said. A loophole in the rule allowed Newsom to pull it off by sending the letter to the child’s attorney who forwarded it to the four victims.

As if that weren’t shocking enough, months later Kim discovered Newsom had a profile on http://www.myspace.com operated by a third party.

“This is a fascinating issue and could be a catalyst for change,” said crime victims’ advocate Andy Kahan. “MySpace security can only look through filtration of sex offenders who are registered. Because Newsom is serving time, he doesn’t have to register.”

It’s another loophole, perhaps, one mother hopes will bring change.

“If I can just help one child, that would do a lot of healing for me too,” said Newsom.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is investigating the matter. Inmates mail can be opened by prison officials, unless it’s sent to a law enforcement officer, judge, or in this case, an attorney.

MySpace has since removed Newsom’s profile.

David Elliman – Repeat Sex Offender – Indefinite Sentence Imposed

A CONVICTED paedophile who groomed a 15-year-old schoolboy for sex after befriending him on an internet social networking site has been locked up indefinitely.

David Elliman, 27, had only been released from prison for earlier offences of child abuse three weeks before he posed as a 17-year-old youth and asked to be a friend of the schoolboy on his “Bebo” account, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

The following day Elliman had arranged to meet the boy at Ipswich Railway Station and had then taken him back to his hotel room and sexually assaulted him.

Elliman, who had been staying at the Station Hotel, Ipswich, admitted offences of sexual grooming and sexual assault.

Judge John Holt passed an indeterminate prison sentence on Elliman for public protection and said he would have to serve at least two years in prison before he could be considered for release by the parole board.

Sentencing Elliman the judge said he had groomed the boy by means of the Bebo social networking site on the internet.

He said it was clear from text messages seen by the police that Elliman intended that the meeting between him and the boy should be the first of several similar encounters.

He said Elliman had been jailed for 15 months in 2005 for three offences of sexual assault on boys aged 12 and 14 and for possessing indecent images of children.

He had been subject to an extended period of licence on his release and had subsequently been returned to prison for two breaches of his licence which arose out of him befriending a child and being seen near a children’s play area.

Elliman had been released from prison on February 25 this year and the offences currently before the court had taken place three weeks later on March 14.

Judge Holt said a probation report on Elliman said there had been an escalation in the seriousness of his offending and considered that he posed a serious risk of causing harm to children in the community.

In addition to jailing Elliman the judge imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order restricting his future use of the internet and contact with children under 16.

He was also ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Patricia Doggett, prosecuting, said that after taking the boy to his hotel room Elliman had pushed the boy backwards on the bed before removing his jeans and underwear and performing a sex act on him.

Afterwards the boy had caught a bus home and had later been contacted by Elliman on MSN asking him if he had enjoyed himself and asking if would like to do it again, said Miss Doggett.

Thereafter there had been some communication between Elliman and the boy concerning a jacket the boy wanted Elliman to buy him because he thought he had been “used” by him.

Roger Thomson for Elliman said his client’s previous offending clearly aggravated the current offences.

He said that Elliman hadn’t restrained the boy.

Antoine Louis Johnson – MySpace Predator – Updated

There’s new information about a Gwinnett County church volunteer accused of child molestation. Another person has come forward, saying he was a victim.

“During the course of the investigation there was always the possibility of a third victim,” said Gwinnett County Police Corp. David Schiralli. “Through the investigation they determined there was a third victim.”

Gwinnett County police said Antoine Louis Johnson setup a fake profile on MySpace and was posing as a 16-year-old girl. The boy’s mother said the girl, named Kristen, befriended her son on MySpace last summer.

The Dacula mother said she couldn’t be happier Johnson is behind bars. She said the 26-year-old man has been sexually molesting her 13-year-old boy and killed a part of her child.

The boy’s mother said Johnson picked up her son, took him to a vacant home where, she said, Johnson sexually assaulted her son. She said it didn’t stop there. Johnson blackmailed her son into meeting him at least three other times.

Johnson had been volunteering with the youth at Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula the last two years. Administrative Pastor David Baker said Johnson was terminated as soon as they learned of his arrest.

Baker said as of right now, they do not believe there are any alleged victims in their congregation.

As for the alleged victim’s mother, she has a message for parents.

“Watch your children. Make time for it,” she said.

Police said Johnson is being without bond.

Sex offenders can’t be trusted on the internet

A local psychologist who has counseled hundreds of sex offenders believes there’s nothing more dangerous to them or the public than the Internet.

“If they’ve benefited from treatment at all, they should know that they shouldn’t be involved in any Internet discussions or be on any social networking sites,” said Dr. James Orlando, Clinical Director at Summit Psychological Associates.

“It’s way too tempting for them. It would be like an alcoholic taking a job as a bartender. It’s really not a good idea, and they should know that.”

Earlier this year, Facebook and MySpace each adopted new policies prohibiting sex offenders from having personal pages.

Facebook has already deleted the profiles of more than 5,000 convicted sex offender, including an Akron man who molested boys at a local high school ten years ago and whose Facebook profile was featured several weeks ago on Channel 3 News.

Recently, a Kent mother checked the names of sex offenders in her neighborhood and found four men — all of whom had offended against young girls — with active Facebook profiles.

Orlando realizes that the ease of access makes it impossible to follow every sex offender’s activity on the Internet, but after counseling hundreds of offenders, he’s confident social networking is a one-way ticket to disaster.

“Sex offending occurs in the context of a relationship, almost always,” Orlando said. “So for an offender to offend, they need two things. They need opportunity to get to victims and they need an opportunity to develop a relationship . Social networking enables them to develop a relationship with a lot of people slowly over a course of time, and they slowly groom a lot of people until they find one they can offend against. So it’s ideal for them.”

Robert Williams – Repeat Sex Offender – Internet Predator – "every parent’s worst nightmare"

A SEXUAL predator abducted a 15-year-old girl and fled with her to France weeks after being freed on bail over another relationship with a youngster.

Robert Williams – described as “every parent’s worst nightmare” – was yesterday jailed for five years at Grimsby Crown Court, after earlier pleading guilty to child abduction and sexual activity with a child.

He will serve half of his sentence, less the 119 days he has spent on remand, and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

The father-of-three was on bail at the time of the incident in January this year after a complaint about a similar case involving another teenage girl.

In the first incident Williams, a lorry driver, met a 16-year-old girl on the internet and travelled from Scotland to Sussex to meet her, before booking into a hotel where the pair had sex.

He was interviewed and bailed but never charged.

But within weeks Williams arranged to meet a “naive” and “vulnerable” teenager from Cleethorpes, and whisked her off to France after taking her from her home in North East Lincolnshire on January 14.

Williams, 49, of Glebe Road, Whitburn, West Lothian, met the 15-year-old in a chatroom, where she had previously been talking to his son. He told her he was 19 and sent her a photograph of a man with a muscular body.

The court heard Williams was aware that the girl was 15 and when he later confessed his real age, she was said to be “unperturbed” by the truth.

The teenager told friends she had fallen in love with Williams and they would become engaged. During the two days before the pair went missing, they exchanged a “barrage” of nearly 500 text messages.

Williams and the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, travelled by train from Grimsby to Doncaster and then on to London, where they booked into a hotel room and had unprotected sex twice.

The next day they travelled to France by ferry and were found a week later, on January 21, when they went to the British Consulate in Lille. Staff at the Consulate contacted police and Williams was arrested.

Prosecutor Jeremy Evans told the court the girl was a virgin and did not want to have sex with him, but did not tell him.

Mr Evans said: “She says she wanted to wait until she left school and met the right person before losing her virginity, but said she did not ask the defendant to stop.”

Mr Evans said the girl told police she wanted to go home after they reached France and felt relief when they were found.

Sentencing Williams, Judge David Tremberg told him: “She appears to have been a particularly naive young girl for her years and vulnerable to the attentions of a man like you.”

He added: “The complainant feels used, which she has been.

“She is withdrawn, the effect on her and her relationship with her family has been substantial. She feels isolated and unhappy.”

In a statement read by Det Chief Insp Sharon Fielding, of Humberside Police, the girl’s family said: “We are pleased that this man is now behind bars as it means we can put this ordeal behind us and move on as a family.

Speaking for the Crown Prosecution Service outside court, Mr Evans called Williams “every parent’s worst nightmare”.

Jason Kaumeyer – Internet Predator – CSA Prevention

A Shorewood man was arrested for attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex, according to the Office of Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.

Jason Kaumeyer, 26, of the 1100-block of Geneva Street, was charged with indecent solicitation of a child. Kauymeyer suggested meeting for sex to a girl he thought was 14 years old but was actually a detective with the Police Child Exploitation Unit. He arranged to meet the girl near a fast food restaurant where he was taken into custody.

A preliminary police searched yielded evidence of Kaumeyer’s online correspondence as well as invitation for his upcoming wedding.

Kaumeyer’s bond was set at $15,000. His will appear in court next on June 16.

Timothy David Schwiederek – Internet Predator – MySpace

A 27-year-old Coweta County resident has been arrested for allegedly using the Internet and his cell phone to send obscene material to a 15-year-old.

Authorities believe there are other victims locally and are urging them to come forward.

Timothy David Schwiederek, of 26 Price Road, Newnan, was taken into custody without incident on June 6, charged with computer pornography and child exploitation as well as electronically furnishing obscene material, according to Major James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 4, the sheriff’s office began investigating a report by a local citizen that a 15-year-old girl was receiving obscene materials through the online social networking site MySpace and on her cell phone. Schwiederek was chatting online under the nickname “Tater,” say authorities.

The suspect allegedly posed as one of the victim’s friends to gain access to her page. The victim’s cell phone number was on her page, which Schwiederek reportedly used to make sexual advances and send nude pictures. He also sent inappropriate material through MySpace.

Investigators traced the illegal activity to Schwiederek, a janitor at the Fulton County Airport at Charlie Brown Field. They executed a search warrant at his residence and found “a lot of pornography,” according to Yarbrough. Authorities seized his computer, which will be analyzed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Police also found notebooks at Schwiederek’s home that contained names of girls with their e-mail addresses and other contact information, according to the major.

“We believe he’s done this to other individuals,” said Yarbrough.

Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Schwiederek should contact Yarbrough or Inv. Jason Fetner at 770-253-1502.

Yarbrough reminds users of social networking sites to limit the personal information they put on their profile.

Antoine Louis Johnson – MySpace Predator Busted

Gwinnett County police say a 26-year-old man posed as a teenage girl on the Web site MySpace.com to lure a 13-year-old boy for sex.

Antoine Louis Johnson is being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond. Johnson was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated child molestation and child molestation.

Authorities said the boy told a guardian early last week that he had been molested in June 2008.

The boy said he met a girl on the social networking site who promised sex if he would allow her brother to perform sexual acts on him, according to police.

Johnson picked up the boy near the entrance of his neighborhood and took him to a nearby vacant house for sex, authorities said.

Police learned that Johnson contacted a friend of the boy and sought a meeting, again pretending to be a 16-year-old girl.

Johnson arranged a meeting Friday with the boy and his friend at the intersection of Indian Shoals Road and Biltmore Oaks Drive, police said. Investigators approached Johnson and took him into custody.

Additional charges are pending, police said.

Police are asking any other potential victims to come forward.

Proactively ridding Facebook of babyrapers

A mother of three said she worries daily about her kids’ safety, especially with sex offenders living nearby. So she’s doing something about it after being inspired by a story on News Journal sister station, WKYC in Cleveland.

The woman, 29, saw Eric Mansfield’s series on a convicted child molester in Akron who set up a Facebook profile, something the social network now prohibits.

Facebook deleted the man’s profile within minutes of being contacted by WKYC.

“Mary,” not her real name, wanted to see if offenders living near her family in Kent are also on Facebook, which allows those with profiles to “friend” each other and then share photos, emails and instant messaging.

Mary entered her address on the Portage County Sheriff’s Web site and learned the names and addresses of the sex offenders living near her.

She then entered those names one at a time on Facebook and has matched four sex offenders — all of whom were convicted of abusing underage girls — with active Facebook profiles.

“Kind of shocking and sick — just more access to kids,” she said. “You’d think Facebook could make some kind of way to check to see better if sex offenders were on there.”

After deleting one man’s profile, Facebook’s Simon Axton said, “Protecting our users, especially the many children who use our site, has always been a top priority for Facebook. We have been working proactively with states’ attorneys general to run their lists of registered sex offenders against our user base.”

Calls to the Portage County Sex Offender unit were not immediately returned.
