Juan Lauderdale – Repeat Sex Offender – Victim sues enabling Apartment

A Galveston County woman has filed suit against a La Marque apartment complex, claiming it was aware one of its employees is a registered sex offender who then allegedly raped her 14-year-old daughter on its premises six months ago.

The mother and daughter, referred to as Jane and Sally Doe respectively in court documents, accuse DJP Holdings LLC, which is doing business as La Mark Apartments, of carelessly hiring and retaining Juan Lauderdale as a resident maintenance worker.

The suit was filed in Galveston County District Court on June 15.

Lauderdale and apartment manager Damien J. Patrick are named co-defendants in the case.

“Defendants DJP Holdings LLC d/b/a La Mark Apartments and Damien J. Patrick knew or should have known of Juan Lauderdale’s dangerous and exploitative propensities as a child sexual abuser, and despite such knowledge, negligently retained (Juan) Lauderdale and failed to warn those coming into contact with him, including minor plaintiff and the minor plaintiff’s family, of (Juan) Lauderdale’s propensities,” the original petition states.

The suit claims that Lauderdale was already on the list of registered sex offenders in connection with the sexual assault of a young girl in 1996 when the apartment management entrusted the La Mark property to his care.

Jane Doe alleges Lauderdale, 32, brutally and repeatedly sexually assaulted her daughter at knifepoint for an unspecified number of hours on Dec. 29, 2008, after he brought the teen to his unit for a tattooing session.

Law enforcement officials in the Bryan-College Station metropolitan area arrested Lauderdale in Somerville a month after the alleged attack.

The suspect was then turned over to Galveston County and indicted on Feb. 28 for aggravated sexual assault with a child and failure to register as a sex offender as a result of the incident.

He remains in the Galveston County Jail.

Consequently, the suit evokes the writ of respondeat superior against the apartment complex and Patrick.

The elder plaintiff insists her daughter was negatively impacted by the encounter with Lauderdale.

“As a direct and proximate result of the sexual assault and the negligent conduct of the defendants, minor plaintiff suffered severe and permanent emotional distress, physical manifestations of emotional distress, embarrassment, loss of self-esteem, and other psychological injuries,” the suit says. “These affects are permanent and will abide with the minor plaintiff for her entire life.”

The plaintiffs seek restitution for the girl’s medical treatment in addition to a jury trial.

Houston attorney Jennifer H. Kahn is representing the plaintiff.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor.

David Helsel – Repeat Sex Offender – Cemetery Predator

A convicted Megan’s Law offender is accused of dragging a teen into the woods and trying to rape her at knifepoint.

David Helsel, of Altoona, was arrested after a short manhunt Tuesday night and is facing numerous charges, including indecent assault.

Helsel was convicted previously of rape and is listed on the Megan’s Law Web site as a sex offender.

Altoona police said Helsel approached a group of juveniles — two girls and three boys — at the Oakridge Cemetery on 10th Street. Helsel claimed he worked at the cemetery and blamed the group for knocking over tombstones. When the juveniles tried to walk away, Helsel punched one of the boys in the face, police said.

Soon after, police said Helsel allegedly grabbed the two girls and forced them to enter a wooded area about a block away. There, Helsel pulled out a knife and assaulted both teens before one managed to escape, police said.

The girl called police, who arrived moments later to find Helsel standing over the other girl, who was partially nude.

Helsel fled the scene but officers caught him after a chase, police said. He remains at the Blair County Prison on $500,000 bond.

The girl was taken to Altoona Regional Hospital, where she was examined and released.

Richard Scott Campbell – Repeat Sex Offender – Making Up-skirt shots at Wal-Mart

A New Kent County resident who is on the state’s sex-offender registry faces a court hearing next month for a sex-offense charge in Henrico County.

Police say Richard Scott Campbell, 41, snapped unauthorized pictures June 9 at a Wal-Mart in the 7900 block of Brook Road in Henrico. Police say he used his cell phone to snap pictures up a woman’s skirt.

The woman noticed Campbell when she turned away from a clearance display of cosmetics, authorities said.

“Mr. Campbell was kneeling down holding his cell phone under the victim’s skirt taking pictures,” according to a search warrant.

She followed him to the parking lot and took down his license plate information, then notified authorities.

According to state police, Campbell has three convictions for indecent exposure, the most recent in Chesterfield County in April 2001. Those convictions have made him a registered sex offender.

He is due in Henrico court July 21 for a preliminary hearing.

Samuel Huffer – Registered Sex Offender – Directing "Annie"

FREDERICK, MD – A summer production of “Annie” is getting a lot of fanfare – not because of the talent, but because of the play’s director. Turns out he’s a convicted sex offender.

The director, Samuel Huffer, spent 21 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography. He had worked as a drama teacher in Walkersville, but when officials raided his home in 2001, State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says they found pornographic tapes of boys.

“A leopard doesn’t change their spots,” Smith said. “I would think that there should be a moral obligation on these types of programs to notify parents.”

The play is put on by the Frederick Town Players. The community organization didn’t notify parent’s until three weeks into rehearsals.

“I don’t think Sam will harm a child. He certainly was convicted of a serious crime, he served prison time, and fulfilled his probation,” said Rick Weldon, who plays Daddy Warbucks.

There are about 50 people in the cast, and half of them are children. Weldon says Huffer is an exceptional director and the children are not in danger.

He added, “I would never put my personal reputation on the line to be involved in a production that I thought children were going to be at risk. I just wouldn’t have done it.”

Huffer has completed his three years of supervised probation. The State’s Attorney says he is not breaking the law by directing plays.

Lewis Harrison – Repeat Sex Offender – Compulsive

A registered sex offender we first told you about months ago is back in trouble again after allegedly exposing himself to children.

Police say Lewis Harrison exposed himself to girls sitting on the front porch of a West Louisville home Sunday night, but it’s far from the first time police have had dealings with him.

Harrison’s record goes back to 1987. He has numerous arrests for indecent exposure, voyeurism and failing to comply with the sex offender registry.

He’s been charged before with pleasuring himself near pools and bus stops, but hasn’t spent much time behind bars for his alleged crimes.

The last time WHAS11 told you about 41-year-old Harrison, he had just been thrown in jail for allegedly pleasuring himself at a school bus stop.

A new victim is now speaking out about Harrison. Two teenage sisters say on Sunday, a stranger parked in the alley across from their home, then pretended to work on his car.

The girls say eventually the man began exposing and pleasuring himself. They called police, who arrested Lewis Harrison on felony charges of first degree indecent exposure, but this was not the first time.

Since 1987, Harrison has been charged repeatedly for sex crimes involving children, the charges include 14 counts of indecent exposure, voyeurism and failing to comply with the sex offender registry.

Police said Harrison had pornography, Vaseline and a camera in his car.

A mother in the complex also said Harrison attempted to abduct her young daughter. According to police reports, Harrison was sitting in his vehicle touching himself while watching small children swimming in Shelby Park pool. When officers took him into custody, he had a picture of his private parts attached to a note with his phone number on it.

Yet Harrison has spent relatively little time behind bars. The sexual abuse charge stemming from September’s arrest is a Class D Felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Yet Harrison pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to probation and time served only 13 days.

Harrison was arrested six months later after passing out in his vehicle with his exposed genitals in his hand.

Harrison is currently being held under a $5,000 full cash bond. He’ll be back in court on the latest charges on June 25th. His trial for another incident in March is scheduled for August.

Stacey Alan Glenn – Repeat Sex Offender – Driving Naked tries to kidnap a new victim

Wilmington | City police charged a local man with kidnapping and indecent exposure Thursday and are now seeking information from the public about related offenses.

Stacey Alan Glenn, 41, of 7055 Masonboro Sound Road is in the New Hanover County jail on $100,000 secured bond, according to a press release from Lucy Crockett, public affairs officer for the Wilmington Police Department.

The incident leading to his arrest occurred about 3 a.m. May 22 near North Sixth and Red Cross streets. A woman was trying to hail a cab when she was approached by a man driving a blue car who offered her a ride. The woman got in, thinking the car was a taxi.

After entering the car, the woman realized the driver was naked, and she tried to get out. The man grabbed her hair and clothing, but she was able to open the car door. The driver accelerated, and the forward momentum threw the victim from the car. She received multiple abrasions from being thrown onto the pavement.

Wilmington detectives used the victim’s information and other leads to get a warrant for Glenn, Crockett said.

Glenn is a convicted sex offender in Colorado who has lived in Wilmington since 2006, Crockett said, and now police are seeking information from the public about related offenses.

Glenn drives a light blue, 1994 4-door Ford Taurus. Anyone with any information is asked to call the police department at 343-3600.

Gordon Lee Parkin – Pedophile – Get 7 years and lifetime supervision

“Each time an image of a child victim is traded – especially to an individual who has not seen such image in the past – the child victim is victimized all over again”

SEATTLE – A Granite Falls man was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for distributing thousands of child porn images online.

Gordon Lee Parkin, 49, received the sentence Friday in U.S. District Court from U.S. District Judge James L. Robart. He also ordered lifetime supervised release for Parkin after he serves his term.

The judge also said he will consider ordering Parkin to pay restitution to one of the known victims in the case.

Parkin pleaded guilty to distributing child porn in January, said Emily Langlie, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle.

He was identified by investigators with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as using a chat program to send more than 8,000 images of child pornography.

When a search warrant was executed at Parkin’s home, agents discovered thousands of images of child pornography on his computer.

Agents also found more than 200 pictures of children in the neighborhood, including close-up shots attempting to photograph the underwear of young girls.

The chat logs on Parkin’s computer revealed that he had exchanged 8,645 still images and 11 movies of child pornography. In some instances he sent more than 750 images at a time to others via the chat program.

Many of the images were of victims identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and one of those victims has requested restitution from any defendant who distributed photos of her.

In asking for prison time and lifetime supervised release, Assistant United States Attorney Aravind Swaminathan described how trading child pornography repeatedly victimizes innocent children.

“Each time an image of a child victim is traded – especially to an individual who has not seen such image in the past – the child victim is victimized all over again,” Swaminathan said.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, launched in February 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice. The initiative is designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.

Robert Williams – Repeat Sex Offender – Internet Predator – "every parent’s worst nightmare"

A SEXUAL predator abducted a 15-year-old girl and fled with her to France weeks after being freed on bail over another relationship with a youngster.

Robert Williams – described as “every parent’s worst nightmare” – was yesterday jailed for five years at Grimsby Crown Court, after earlier pleading guilty to child abduction and sexual activity with a child.

He will serve half of his sentence, less the 119 days he has spent on remand, and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

The father-of-three was on bail at the time of the incident in January this year after a complaint about a similar case involving another teenage girl.

In the first incident Williams, a lorry driver, met a 16-year-old girl on the internet and travelled from Scotland to Sussex to meet her, before booking into a hotel where the pair had sex.

He was interviewed and bailed but never charged.

But within weeks Williams arranged to meet a “naive” and “vulnerable” teenager from Cleethorpes, and whisked her off to France after taking her from her home in North East Lincolnshire on January 14.

Williams, 49, of Glebe Road, Whitburn, West Lothian, met the 15-year-old in a chatroom, where she had previously been talking to his son. He told her he was 19 and sent her a photograph of a man with a muscular body.

The court heard Williams was aware that the girl was 15 and when he later confessed his real age, she was said to be “unperturbed” by the truth.

The teenager told friends she had fallen in love with Williams and they would become engaged. During the two days before the pair went missing, they exchanged a “barrage” of nearly 500 text messages.

Williams and the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, travelled by train from Grimsby to Doncaster and then on to London, where they booked into a hotel room and had unprotected sex twice.

The next day they travelled to France by ferry and were found a week later, on January 21, when they went to the British Consulate in Lille. Staff at the Consulate contacted police and Williams was arrested.

Prosecutor Jeremy Evans told the court the girl was a virgin and did not want to have sex with him, but did not tell him.

Mr Evans said: “She says she wanted to wait until she left school and met the right person before losing her virginity, but said she did not ask the defendant to stop.”

Mr Evans said the girl told police she wanted to go home after they reached France and felt relief when they were found.

Sentencing Williams, Judge David Tremberg told him: “She appears to have been a particularly naive young girl for her years and vulnerable to the attentions of a man like you.”

He added: “The complainant feels used, which she has been.

“She is withdrawn, the effect on her and her relationship with her family has been substantial. She feels isolated and unhappy.”

In a statement read by Det Chief Insp Sharon Fielding, of Humberside Police, the girl’s family said: “We are pleased that this man is now behind bars as it means we can put this ordeal behind us and move on as a family.

Speaking for the Crown Prosecution Service outside court, Mr Evans called Williams “every parent’s worst nightmare”.

WANTED – Mark Anthony Hurley – Repeat Sex Offender – Violent Rapist

“We want this man in custody as soon as possible, and hopefully, someone will know where he is,” the chief said.

Police are looking for a man who could be armed and is considered dangerous after he was accused of raping a teenage girl early Sunday.

Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said an arrest warrant for first-degree rape was issued Monday for Mark Anthony Hurley, 32, whose last known address was 522 Filmore St., Russellville.

Hargett said investigators received information Tuesday morning that Hurley could be armed with a handgun.

“Under the circumstances, we are considering him to be dangerous,” the chief said.

Police say the attack against the girl occurred early Sunday at Hurley’s residence. The chief said the girl knew Hurley and had been with him at a gathering Saturday night.

Hargett said the girl reported that she was choked and hit several times in the face. He said scratch marks and bruising were visible on the her face and marks could be seen on her throat.

“She was pretty beat up and had to receive medical treatment,” Hargett said.

Lowery said the girl was treated at Russellville Hospital.

Hurley is a registered sex offender. According to the National Sex Offender Registry, Hurley was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse April 5, 2002, involving a 17-year-old girl.

Officials with Rape Response in Florence said it’s not uncommon for the victim of a rape to know her attacker.

“A sexual assault happens every two minutes in this country, and nearly 80 percent of the victims know their attackers,” said Cathy Connolly, director of Rape Response.

Connolly said physical injuries that occur during a sexual attack are not as common, “but they do happen.”

“There is always emotional scars and sometimes there are physical scars as well,” Connolly said.

She said statistics indicate that victims age 12-18 are the highest risk for sexual attack.

According to the sex offender registry, Hurley is described as a black man, 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 185 pounds. He is bald with brown eyes a goatee.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 332-2230 or CrimeStoppers at 386-8685.

“We want this man in custody as soon as possible, and hopefully, someone will know where he is,” the chief said.
