Joseph Christian Fontana – Repeat Sex Offender – 76 new counts

The Santa Rosa County Sheriffs Office has been searching for a registered Sex Offender, Joseph Christian Fontana aka Christian Fontana since a warrant for his arrest was issued in 2006.

Fontana disappeared from his residence at 1305 Green Acres Avenue in Fort Walton Beach after finding out that the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office was conducting an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Fontana with minor children. Fontana’s whereabouts were unknown until this afternoon, when he was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Service in the Dominican Republic.

Joseph Christian Fontana was profiled in April 2009 on the television show “America’s Most Wanted”. The show aired in the Dominican Republic as well, due to suspicions of Fontana being in that area.

In late April 2009, a tip was received through “America’s Most Wanted” and forwarded to investigators at the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. The tip gave a specific address for Fontana in the Dominican Republic.

Due to Fontana being out of the country, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office submitted the case to the U.S. Marshal’s Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force and requested their assistance in tracking down and apprehending Fontana.

The information was given to the U.S. Marshal’s Foreign Field Office in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in an attempt to locate and apprehend Fontana. At approximately 1600 hours central time, U.S. Marshal’s, with the assistance of law enforcement in the Dominican Republic, took Fontana into custody.

From 2001 until 2006 when he fled, Fontana had been visiting with a single mother and her three children in their home. He met the latest victim’s mother at a local church and he eventually committed offenses against her children.

A 4 month investigation into the activities of Fontana, a Registered Sex Offender, resulted in a warrant being issued for his arrest.Fontana has been arrested involving crimes against children 3 times in the past. Fontana was convicted in 1995 of lewd & lascivious behavior with male child less than 16 years of age.

Fontana was known to prey on single women who have young male children. The initial investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, and The Department of Children and Families. Fontana’s also currently has 1 warrant in Okaloosa County.

The 1 warrant in Santa Rosa County is for the following charges: 25 Counts of Sexual Assault on a victim over 12, 25 Counts of Lewd & Lascivious behavior (conduct by persons 18 or older), 25 counts of Lewd & Lascivious behavior (exhibit by persons 18 or older victim less than 16), and 1 count of showing obscene material to a child. Fontana is being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s in the Dominican Republic. It is currently not known as to when his extradition will occur. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office would like to offer their sincere gratitude to both “America’s Most Wanted” and the USMS for their diligent efforts in locating and apprehending Joseph Fontana.

WANTED: James Woodrow Duncan – Repeat Sex Offender

For almost two full years, a sexual predator molested his teenage stepdaughter in southwest Michigan, authorities have said, and when she found the courage to report the despicable crimes, he vanished.

Now, cops with the Michigan State Police need your help to track down the man who they say is responsible: James Woodrow Duncan.

This isn’t Duncan’s first brush with the law, and it’s not even his first Criminal Sexual Conduct charge in the state of Michigan. On December 6, 1991, Duncan pled guilty to a 3rd Degree CSC and spent years behind bars.

He’s been a registered sex offender since November 1995, and for just over a decade, cops say he managed to steer clear of trouble.

But that all changed when, according to police reports, Duncan began forcing his teenage step-daughter to have sex with him in their home during a two-year period from mid-2006 through July 2008.

On July 18, 2008, the young victim’s grandmother accompanied her to a local Michigan State Police post where she reported the heinous sexual assaults she says she repeatedly endured.

Shortly thereafter, cops made contact with her step-father, who said he would come in for an interview — but that interview never took place.

Days later, Duncan called back and told police he’d changed his mind. He claimed to have to go out of town, but he promised to be back by July 27, 2008.

Instead, when Duncan finally did call the cops back, he was singing a new tune: he told them that he’d found himself an attorney — and then he hit the road.

WANTED – Vincent Edward Boyd – Repeat Sex Offender – Absconded

Town of Menasha police got more than a dozen tip calls after fugitive Vincent Boyd was featured on America’s Most Wanted. Those close to the fugitive hope he’s captured soon.

Sarah, who asked us not to use her last name, is the ex-wife of a sex offender on the run.

“I don’t know what to say to that. I really hope that they catch him very soon.”

Her mother says she feels the same way.

“Anybody who preys on young children doesn’t deserve their freedom,” said Boyd’s ex-mother-in-law.

Boyd faces six felony charges. He’s wanted in Winnebago County for the alleged sexual assault of his then-seven-year-old cousin. He’s also wanted in Langlade County for allegedly beating and raping a nine-year-old girl.

Boyd, 27, has been on the run since being charged eight months ago.

On Saturday he was featured on the TV show “America’s Most Wanted.” Since then, Town of Menasha police received 15 new leads, possibly pointing them to his whereabouts.

“This is the one who preys on children. He’s your typical child predator in every sense,” Jason Weber of the police department said.

Weber couldn’t reveal where the tip calls came from but said detectives are pursuing the leads right now.

Sarah told us, “If it wasn’t for the community’s help and my parents, I probably wouldn’t have understood how crucial it was to walk away from him when I did.”

As a repeat offender, Boyd could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted on any of the pending charges.

Marcos Rivera – Repeat Sex Offender – Guilty

A Connecticut sex offender arrested last year after he was featured on TV crime show has been convicted of sexually assaulting another child.

Marcos Rivera, 30, of Hartford, pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. A judge is expected to sentence him on Aug. 17 to 12 1/2 years in prison followed by 12 1/2 years of probation.

Prosecutors say Rivera repeatedly sexually assaulted his girlfriend’s daughter over a two-year span beginning when she was 5. Authorities say the girl didn’t reveal the assaults until she was older, after Rivera finished a 5-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting another minor.

Police arrested Rivera in the Bronx in August 2008, moments after “America’s Most Wanted” showed his case.

Anthony Flye – Meets Judge Moses

Accused rapist Anthony Flye’s defense attorneys won a motion Tuesday that will allow Flye to have three separate trials for his charges.

Flye, of 18 Rowley St. in Swansea and 9 Brinda Lane of Nantucket, is currently being held at the Plymouth House of Correction on $1 million bail while facing charges of rape, indecent assault and battery on a disabled person, assault and battery on a disabled person, rape of a child under the age of 16, enticing a child under the age of 16, incest, aggravated rape and indecent assault and battery.

Flye also faces charges in Rhode Island, which will be dealt with only after his Massachusetts trials are complete, A Rhode Island grand jury indicted him last year on four counts of first-degree child molestation and two counts of second-degree child molestation.

Flye, who worked in the construction trade and had a criminal record dating back to his juvenile days, gained national attention for his March 26, 2008, escape from a hospital’s emergency room bathroom while a court officer waited outside. Featured on the Web site of Fox’s hit series “America’s Most Wanted,” Flye was on the loose for 13 days before being found on Route 6 in Westport with $800 in cash.

The new motion to sever cases, which Superior Court Judge Richard Moses approved, will allow three separate trials for the rape and indecent assault and battery on a disabled person, rape of a child under the age of 16 and escape charges.

When contacted about the reasoning behind the motion to sever, Flye’s defense attorney, Louis M. Badwey, of New Bedford, said “he does not discuss any of his cases with the media.”

District Attorney spokesman Gregg Miliote said that while the defense request to sever the trials isn’t a common practice, it does happen periodically.

Flye is next due in court Feb. 23 for a pre-trial hearing on the escape charges and a final pre-trial hearing March 23 for his other charges.

Don Fritzsche – Repeat Sex Offender – Agrees he’s a scumbag

Convicted sex offender Don Fritzsche pleaded guilty to one felony count of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16 in District Court Tuesday and agreed to undergo a psychosexual evaluation prior to sentencing.

Fritzsche was on District Court Judge Fred Gibler’s docket for a pretrial conference in preparation for his trail, set for Jan. 27, for two counts of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16.

Attorney David Lohman, representing Fritzsche, informed Gibler during the pretrial conference that a plea agreement had been reached.

The plea agreement stipulated that Fritzsche would plead guilty to one count of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16 while a second count of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16 would be dismissed. The agreement also outlined a psychosexual evaluation Fritzsche has consented to undergo, with a report — including a professional analysis of the test results — to be issued to the court and used by Gibler in Fritzsche’s sentencing.

The maximum penalty for lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16, Gibler said, is a sentence of up to life in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Gibler set Fritzsche’s sentencing for April 13 at 9 a.m.

Fritzsche, then 33, was arrested on a federal warrant in Bonners Ferry last July in connection to the sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl. Lt. Corey Thompson with the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, who was involved in an investigation of Fritzsche, reported that the man left the St. Joe River area near Avery and fled the state when he learned a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Fritzsche, reportedly on the run from Texas and Oregon to Montana and Washington, was featured on the television show “America’s Most Wanted.” He was later arrested in Bonners Ferry.

According to Thompson, Fritzsche’s record includes prior imprisonment for sexually abusing a minor.

Kenneth John Freeman – A most heinous and despicable pedophile

“Kenneth Freeman distinguishes himself as one of the most heinous and despicable pedophiles ICE has ever encountered”

Freeman was loathsome even by the standards of pedophiles

A man who raped his daughter and posted videos of the abuse online before fleeing the country pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court and likely faces the rest of his life in prison.

Kenneth John Freeman, 46 — described by law-enforcement officers as “one of the most heinous” pedophiles — pleaded guilty to production of child pornography and interstate transportation of a minor for the purpose of unlawful sexual activity.

His agreement with federal prosecutors calls for a sentence of 50 years in prison, plus three years of probation, when Freeman is sentenced March 25.

“A 50-year sentence is going to be a life sentence,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Lister, who prosecuted the case. Freeman would serve some 42 years before he could be considered for parole.

He also pleaded guilty to three Benton County charges of child rape during an appearance in Spokane County Superior Court, in exchange for an expected sentence of 20 years, to run concurrently with the federal time. He will be held in a federal prison.

Freeman’s capture involved law-enforcement officers in China, Hong Kong, Canada and a host of federal and local agencies, officials said.

Freeman was loathsome even by the standards of pedophiles, said Leigh Winchell, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Seattle.

“Kenneth Freeman distinguishes himself as one of the most heinous and despicable pedophiles ICE has ever encountered,” Winchell said.

Authorities praised the willingness of his daughter, 19-year-old Kylie Freeman, to testify, saying that helped prompt Freeman to plead guilty.

“I don’t think he wanted to be in a courtroom and hear Kylie testify,” said Benton County Prosecutor Andy Miller, who secured the guilty pleas on the child rape counts. “It was easier for him to plead guilty.”

Chris Peale, Kylie’s stepfather, called it a day of healing for the family.

“He is being held accountable for his horrible, perverted actions,” Peale said.

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Kathleen O’Connor insisted that Freeman hear details of the charges against him, and say exactly what he was pleading guilty to, an ordeal he waived in federal court earlier in the day.

Freeman, a computer adviser, bodybuilder and former reserve sheriff’s deputy in Benton County in southeast Washington, fled the U.S. in 2006 and lived in China. He was arrested in May 2007 in Hong Kong.

His case was featured twice on “America’s Most Wanted.”

The abuse began in 2000, when Kylie was 10, officials said. The girl, now a college student, did not disclose the abuse until she told her mother in November 2005.

In federal court, Freeman pleaded guilty to producing child pornography in Washington, and to producing child pornography and having unlawful sexual activity with a minor in Oregon.

The Oregon charges stem from incidents in which Freeman took his daughter to the Portland area.

Prosecutors said Freeman videotaped the sexual abuse of his daughter and distributed the images via the Internet to pedophiles around the world.

U.S. Attorney Jim McDevitt, of Spokane, said a police detective in Toronto saw an episode of “America’s Most Wanted” that featured Kylie Freeman, and recognized her from some child pornography that he had been investigating.

That information got Freeman placed on most-wanted lists of the U.S. Marshals Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and eventually led to Freeman being tracked to China.

Chinese law-enforcement officers kept him under surveillance and notified U.S. officials when he made arrangements to visit Hong Kong for a vacation. Freeman was arrested in Hong Kong in May 2007.

He agreed to be extradited to the United States.

Before his extradition, Freeman issued a statement indicating he had written an autobiography while in custody.

Authorities seized the 400-page document, which contained confessions to much of the criminal conduct for which he was charged, court documents said.

Michael Andrew Stephens – Repeat Sex Offender – CAPTURED

A state judge set a cash-only bail at $500,000 for convicted sex offender and longtime fugitive Michael Andrew Stephens.

Judge Derrick Chan set the bail during a hearing watched by Stephens via closed-circuit television. An unshaven Stephens, wearing an orange jumpsuit, was being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.

Deputy prosecutor Rom Trader says the 56-year-old Stephens has virtually no chance of making bail.

Stephens was on the run for 15 years, but was captured two weeks ago in Mexico by U.S. Marshals. He was convicted in 1990 for sexually assaulting and kidnapping a 16-year-old boy. He was awaiting trial in 1993 on new charges when he fled.

Trader says more charges could be filed in the case, as well as a motion to revoke bail.
