A registered sex offender in California has been sentenced to two years in a Canadian prison for attempting to bring a significant amount of child pornography into Canada.
John Stephen Pichon, 46, of Oxnard, Calif., was arrested and charged April 27 with possession of child pornography and importation of child pornography at the Coutts, Alta. border crossing.
He pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography last Thursday in a Lethbridge court and was sentenced to two years in jail.
Court heard Canada Border Services Agency officers found a significant number of graphic images, both photos and video, on a computer during a search of his vehicle.
According to the California sex offender registry, Pichon was convicted of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child younger than 14.
An RCMP official said there were “thousands of files” on the seized computer.
