Ben Hawkins – Repeat Sex Offender – Guilty Pervert

Dubbed “the underwear measurer,” Ben Hawkins pleaded guilty today to fooling parents into letting him be alone with their children so he could ogle and touch them, often in just their underwear.

Hawkins, 44, of Springfield Township, pleaded guilty to 12 of the 19 counts against him. He faces a maximum prison sentence of 44 years when he is sentenced Jan. 29 by Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Ruehlman.

Hawkins’ original charges included sexual touching and kidnapping involving 11 victims ranging in age from 9 to 16.

Hawkins convinced parents to bring their children to him so he could measure their underwear as part of market research. In reality, authorities said, he used those incidents to fuel his sexual fantasies.

“There were no pictures, no cameras. It was all measuring, so to speak,” assistant prosecutor Kevin Hardman said.

After one incident, police confiscated 21 computers from Hawkins’ home and told him to stop. But Hawkins used spare parts to rebuild another computer and got online again to find subjects.

Hawkins was arrested by St. Bernard police because some of the activity he admitted to today took place at Roger Bacon High, Hawkins’ alma mater, when Hawkins was at the school participating in the alumni band.

Springdale police were contacted by a family complaining of Hawkins’ research. A sting was set up where Hawkins met the family at a Mount Airy hospital – where he had been treated for a medical condition – and tried to do the same thing.

Hawkins was a registered sex offender following two previous convictions. In one, he took photos of a minor while on the University of Cincinnati campus. In the other, he left notes for an underage retail worker, asking if he could take naked pictures of her.

At Hawkins’ sentencing, his attorney Scott Rubenstein will call an expert witness who will testify about the kind of sex offender treatment Hawkins will need in prison.

Donald Carl Brown – Gets 56 years under Jessica’s Law

Vasquez said the first time he mentioned Brown’s name to one of the girls, she threw up.

Brown pleaded no contest in September to 100 counts of first-degree rape, sodomy, sexual penetration and sexual abuse. Brown admitted in a handwritten letter last March that he abused the girls over a six- to eight-month period in 2007 and 2008.

A Multnomah County Circuit Court judge sentenced a 57-year-old Southeast Portland man to nearly 56 years in prison Monday for repeatedly raping and molesting a girlfriend’s two young daughters.

Donald Carl Brown said he was sorry for what he did before Judge Stephen Bushong sentenced him under Jessica’s Law. The law, passed by Oregon lawmakers in 2006 after a 9-year-old Florida girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered, requires a 25-year minimum sentence for first-degree rape, sodomy or sexual penetration of children younger than 12.

“I don’t know why I did this to them,” Brown said, in what appeared to be a vague denial of what the prosecutor had laid out in his presentation. “If I would have done the things he said I did, I would ask for the death penalty myself.”

Brown pleaded no contest in September to 100 counts of first-degree rape, sodomy, sexual penetration and sexual abuse. Brown admitted in a handwritten letter last March that he abused the girls over a six- to eight-month period in 2007 and 2008.

One week before Portland police learned of the abuse, the girls’ mother discovered it. She and Brown told the girls not to tell anyone, but because the girls were showing extreme distress at school, school counselors interviewed the children and learned what was happening. Deputy District Attorney Nathan Vasquez said the girls were wetting their pants and falling asleep at school because nightmares kept them awake.

The district attorney’s office considered charging the mother for trying to keep the abuse quiet, but decided against it considering that she was the victim of Brown’s violence. Nearly six years of Brown’s sentence is for assaulting the mother.

Vasquez said the first time he mentioned Brown’s name to one of the girls, she threw up.

Brown’s defense attorneys had unsuccessfully asked for an eight-year sentence, saying Jessica’s Law is cruel and unusual punishment and would amount to a life sentence for Brown.

Jamail Hairston – Repeat Sex Offender – “You sick [expletive] pig. How could you do that?”

A Dorchester man charged with raping a 10-year-old girl saw his pregnant girlfriend storm out of a Roxbury courtroom yesterday when she learned that he was a registered sex offender.

Jamail Hairston, 24, was arraigned on charges he raped a family acquaintance inside a van on Mount Pleasant Street on Saturday. The details of the alleged crime elicited gasps from the court, and a sharp reaction from the defendant’s girlfriend.

“Are you serious?” she yelled after Assistant District Attorney Byron Knight revealed to the court that Hairston was a sex offender. The woman, who did not wish to speak with Metro, then berated Hairston — convicted when he was 17 for indecent assault — as she was led out of the court. “You sick [expletive] pig. How could you do that?”

Hairston’s girlfriend and the aunt of the victim later embraced, seemingly united in the ordeal.

According to Knight, the family of the victim called authorities after she and Hairston did not return from a trip to the store Saturday afternoon. The victim was found “visibly shaken” and began to tell her family what happened.

After a description of Hairston was broadcast to officers he was located nearby and arrested.

Relatives of the victim cheered when Judge Robert Tochka set Hairston’s bail at $250,000. The defendant will return to court Jan. 8.

Josue Chock – Detained in Guatemala

US citizen Josue Chock has been detained in Guatemala and charged with kidnapping and sexually molesting almost a dozen Guatemalan children.

At least ten children were found on Tuesday, four of whom imprisoned in a house, after the Guatemalan police raided Chock’s residence in Salama city, 90 miles north of the capital Guatemala City, AFP reported .

A judicial source said on condition of anonymity, “The ‘gringo’ (the foreigner) videotaped the children and sent the tapes to the United States as pornographic material.”

The children told their interviewer that they had been sexually abused.

The source added, “During the search and while the children were being interviewed, the American took a scalpel and cut his neck. He was then taken to the emergency hospital in Salama where he is in serious condition.”

A 2007 study by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child reported that many Guatemalan children are sold every year in neighboring countries, and especially in the US, for use in pornography and other forms of commercial exploitation.
