John R. Martin – Repeat Sex Offender facing life in prison

A registered sex offender facing life in prison for a sexual assault committed after his release from prison will go on trial Aug. 12 in Waupaca County Circuit Court.

John R. Martin, 31, 404 S. Pine St., Weyauwega is charged with three counts of child enticement and one count of second-degree sexual assault.

Martin is being prosecuted under the state’s “two-strikes” law for repeat sex offenders. The law requires a life sentence without parole if a person is convicted twice of sex offenses.

Martin was released from prison in January 2004 after serving over six years on a charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child.

When Martin was released, the state sent a special notification local law enforcement agencies.

Martin moved to an Avon Street apartment building in New London with his wife in late 2005 and police issued notices bearing his photo to his neighbors.

One of those neighbors was a 15-year-old girl. In April and May 2006, she quickly became a target for Martin, according to a criminal complaint. He tried to invite her into his apartment, exposed himself to her and, on one occasion, grabbed her and put his hands under her bra.

The girl finally reported the incidents to her school counselor.

Martin has remained free on the charges after posting a $10,000 cash bond.

Ricky Jo Asbury – Defiant Whining Pedophile BUSTED

Police arrested a registered sex offender Sunday morning after he refused to leave the children’s area at a church.

Ricky Jo Asbury, 40, of 203 E. 20th St. is charged with disorderly conduct in a religious assembly and second-degree trespass.

An official at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church on Summit Avenue called the Kannapolis Police Department after Asbury refused to leave the area where classes are held for children, according to arrest warrants filed with the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office.

Teachers quickly moved children out of the area, but Asbury remained.

According to information contained in the warrants, Asbury told church officials he was not leaving and “they could not make him (leave) and if the church made him leave he would sue.”

Church officials had previously advised Asbury to stay away from the children’s area.

A magistrate said the charge of disorderly conduct in a religious assembly is rarely filed.

Asbury was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center with bond set at $500 on each charge. He is scheduled to appear in Rowan County District Court on Sept. 4.
