John Edward Chrisman Jr – Repeat Sex Offender – AGAIN

A twice-convicted child molester was arrested again Friday, accused of living too close to a westside youth facility.

John Edward Chrisman Jr. — who was most recently released from prison in September 2006 — is also under investigation for allegedly making sexual advances to children at White’s Mobile Park.

Chrisman, 49, and roommate James M. Burnette, 66 — also released from prison in 2006 after serving time for a molesting conviction — are each accused of violating a state law that prohibits sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school or youth facility.

The mobile home park, at 3900 W. Kilgore Ave., is just west of the Youth Opportunity Center.

Muncie police Lt. Al Williams said police were investigating reports of a man preying on children in the area when they found the two convicted molesters living together in an apartment attached to the trailer park’s office.

Chrisman was not immediately charged with any charges stemming from those allegations. Investigators on Friday afternoon were continuing to talk to witnesses and others.

“There are varying accounts of what happened,” Williams said.

Then-Delaware Circuit Court Judge Steven Caldemeyer handed Chrisman a maximum eight-year prison term in January 1999 after Chrisman was convicted of sexually abusing a five-year-old girl in his south Muncie apartment.

That victim, whose family did not have a television, said Chrisman warned her that if she told anyone about their activities, she would no longer be allowed to watch TV in his apartment.

At the time of his 1998 arrest in Delaware County, Chrisman was on probation for a child-molesting conviction in Randolph County.

In January 1992, Chrisman, then of Union City, was accused of sexually abusing a five-year-old Randolph County girl. That charge was dismissed, despite a graphic confession from Chrisman, after the victim’s mother said she did not want her child subjected to testifying in court.

A few months after the case was dropped, the victim’s mother married Chrisman.

In 1993, Chrisman was charged with molesting the same girl. The 1992 charge was re-filed, and Chrisman pleaded guilty to both Class C felonies.

In April 1994, then-Randolph Circuit Court Judge Jan Chalfant gave Chrisman two eight-year prison terms, but the judge suspended one of the sentences.

Chrisman was released from prison in June 1997 after serving four years.

Burnette, formerly of Anderson, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1999 after he was convicted of child molesting in Marshall County in northern Indiana.

Jeffrey Alan Wasley – Magician & Youth Minister Molested 7 year old boy in Target’s restroom

Wasley works as a magician under the name Magic Jeff. On his Web site, magicjeff.com, he claims he has performed at Six Flags, Cub Scout troops, Home Depot and a long list of local schools.

Cobb County police arrested a man they say molested a child inside the men’s restroom of a Target Store in Kennesaw. They say Jeffrey Alan Wasley, 37, approached two children inside the restroom on July 14 and inappropriately touched one of them.

Police were able to identify Wasley through store security. He was arrested at his home and charged with child molestation.

Cobb County police ask if anyone was at Target on July 14 and saw Wasley that they call the Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit at 770-801-3470.

Jeffrey Alan Wasley, 37, was arrested and charged with child molestation after police say he inappropriately touched a child inside the men’s restroom of a Target store.

A youth minister and magician who claims he has performed at a long list of metro Atlanta schools was arrested Thursday and charged with child molestation.

Jeffrey Alan Wasley, 37, is accused of molesting a 7-year-old boy Monday in the men’s restroom of the Target store at 740 Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw.

The victim reported the incident to store security and identified Wasley.

Police arrested Wasley Thursday night at the home he shares with his wife and two children on Carrie Trace in Kennesaw. According to the police booking report Wasley works at Calvary Jesus Church. On the church’s Web site he is listed as director of children’s ministries.

Some neighbors said they do not believe the charges. “Based on what I know about the guy, yeah, he’s a great guy and family man. Police didn’t even know he was married, police didn’t know he has kids, so that tells me they didn’t do their homework as well as they should have to make the accusations that have been made,” said one neighbor.

“We want anyone who has seen Mr. Wasley at a Target store, whether it was on Ernest Barrett Parkway or any location, if he was doing anything that looked suspicious to please contact us,” said Cassie Reece with the Cobb County Police Department.

The Calvary Jesus Church did not have a comment. Wasley is being held in the Cobb County Jail on $30,000 bond.

Thomas Bavedas School Teacher Pedophile BUSTED

The former Bridgeport teacher charged with possessing more than 60,000 images of child pornography and raping a 12-year-old relative will post $250,000 bond to go free today, his lawyer said.

Edmund Q. Collier, representing the accused Thomas Bavedas, asked Judge John Cronan to lower the defendant’s bond from $500,000 to $150,000 so he would not have to go to jail.

A former Bridgeport elementary school teacher has been charged with possessing thousands of child pornography pictures and videos, two months after police accused him of sexually assaulting a girl under 16.

Police officers arrested Thomas Bavedas, 38, at his home in Milford Thursday afternoon. He was held on $500,000 bond and was to appear in Milford Superior Court on Friday.

Authorities said Bavedas had more than 60,000 photographs and more than 3,000 video images of child pornography on his home computer, including some photos he allegedly took himself.

Bavedas intended to plead not guilty to the charges Friday, said his lawyer, Edmund Q. Collier. Collier said he also expected Bridgeport police to file additional child pornography charges.

Bavedas allegedly recorded himself committing a sex act in the presence of a minor and took some photos of naked children, said Officer Vaughn Dumas, a spokesman for Milford police.

Most of the images found on Bavedas’ computer were downloaded from the Internet, Dumas said.

The preteen children in the photos allegedly taken by Bavedas were all from the Milford area, and investigators believe they have identified all of them, Dumas said.

Milford police are trying to identify the children in the other pictures and in the videos. It was not clear how many children Bavedas allegedly filmed or where they were filmed, police said.

Dumas said some of the videos have been turned over to Bridgeport police, whom he said are investigating Bavedas.

Bavedas was a fourth-grade teacher at Waltersville Elementary School in Bridgeport. He was charged in May with sexually assaulting a girl under 16 whom he knew three times between 2001 and 2005.

He was also arrested the same month on cocaine and marijuana possession charges, and he resigned from his teaching job. He posted $130,000 bail for the charges brought in May.

Collier said his client would not be able to post the new $500,000 bond.
Messages seeking comment were left with Bridgeport school officials and Bridgeport police.

Milford police seized Bavedas’ home computer when they arrested him on the sexual assault charges in May and later discovered the child pornography, authorities said.

Bavedas’ arrest on Thursday was first reported by the New Haven Register and Connecticut Post. He is charged in the new case with first-degree possession of child pornography, importing child pornography, two counts of employing a minor in an obscene performance, four counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of voyeurism.

“We all knew that the charges were coming since the date of his first arrest,” Collier said. “They’re extremely serious charges. I think Mr. Bavedas has taken steps to deal with whatever issues he may have.”

Christopher Lynn Koppe 111 counts of Child Sex Abuse

A Titusville man facing 111 counts of child sexual abuse remains in Brevard County Detention Center this morning.

Christopher Lynn Koppe, 40, is in jail on a $3.7 million bond and is facing life in prison if convicted of the charges stemming from accusations made to a camp counselor about the alleged acts.

Koppe was arrested earlier this week after an interview at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, said Cmdr. Stuart Otto of the Titusville Police Department.

During that interview, Koppe admitted to having sexual contact with the girl, Otto said.

Koppe is charged with two counts of a lewd and lascivious act with a child under 16 years old, 104 counts of a sexual act with a child and five counts of sexual battery of a child under 12 years old.

If convicted of a battery charge, Koppe would receive a sentence of life in prison.

The girl told a counselor at a camp this summer about the alleged abuse, which had escalated for seven years from lewd and lascivious molestation to sexual battery, Otto said.

Titusville police also searched Koppe’s Ford pickup last week and collected evidence that is being analyzed, Otto said.

Koppe has had minor traffic violations in Brevard County and has two felony convictions in California: one for robbery in 1992 and one for theft of a vehicle in 1994.
