GREGORY Thomas Giles – Taxi Driving Sex Offender

YOU ARE NOT THE VICTIM

“You are responsible for effects that are deeper and more long-lasting than you would have ever thought of,”

GREGORY Thomas Giles had sex with a schoolgirl 33 years his junior – but it was his victim who incurred the wrath of their local community, the District Court has heard.

Judge Gordon Barrett today questioned community attitudes towards the “highly regarded” Naracoorte taxi owner and convicted sex offender.

Giles, 52, was found guilty of two counts of having unlawful sexual intercourse with the 14-year old girl in 2003.

Judge Barrett said while many locals continued to support Giles, his victim had suffered vilification and isolation from parts of the community.

Judge Barrett cited from one of 14 references supporting the former SA Taxi Board member.

“The reference begins speaking of you in these terms – ‘Yes, guilty of being too trusting, too caring, too community-minded’,” Judge Barrett said.

“That is not what you are guilty of – you are guilty of committing two sexual offences against a 14-year-old girl.

“You are not the one who was too trusting, she and her parents were.”

Giles had lured the girl to Adelaide on the pretence that she would be taking photographs of taxis breaking the law.

The pair stayed in an apartment overnight, where Giles sexually abused the girl.

Giles was found guilty in October 2006 but had his conviction overturned on appeal.

He was found guilty a second time at trial earlier this year.

Judge Barrett said he could give Giles no credit for contrition or remorse and doubted if he understood the extent of the harm he had inflicted.

“You are responsible for effects that are deeper and more long-lasting than you would have ever thought of,” he said.

The judge said Giles’ offending had cost him his taxi company and his award-winning business as a tour guide.

He said Giles suffered from coronary heart disease and had an increased risk of suffering a stroke from stress.

BOO FUCKING HOO

Judge Barrett said there was no good reason to suspend the sentence and imposed a non-parole period of two years and three months.

Paul J. Danao – Occupation: (part-time) taxi driver, (full-time) pervert

A Bluffton man accused of having child pornography and bomb-making supplies will face child molestation charges, authorities said Tuesday. Detectives have identified at least two children that 26-year-old Paul J. Danao allegedly molested, said Master Sgt. Mike Riley of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies also say he is the author of explicit, handwritten notebooks detailing a growing sexual preference for children.

Officials said additional information could be available as soon as today when arrest warrants are obtained.

The announcement came on the same day the Sheriff’s Office released a six-page investigative report detailing what detectives found in Danao’s impounded minivan April 9.

Writings and drawings in several notebooks written by Danao present the portrait of a confused man coming to terms with intense desires to rape children, ranging in age from newborns to middle school students, according to the report. He detailed at least two plots to abduct, rape and torture large groups of children — both girls and boys — before murdering them.

The books had titles such as “Book of Chaos” and “Pedophilia … true love. Internet kidsex sites and errata.”

One of the notebooks contained a drawing of a dungeon for children, police said.

An essay, entitled “My Manifesto,” has a line that reportedly reads, “My psychology and sexuality are

transgressing — rapidly. I have become immoral and insane … I desire only children now, even babies … .”

A sentence from another reads, “My victims get younger and younger, in the dark, their small bodies I plunder.”

One of the notebooks contains what is apparently a list of sexual encounters with children between the ages of 6 and 15. Each entry contains the age, sex, race and the sexual act performed, according to the report. A couple of first names are on the list.

Danao has maintained that his writings were merely fantasies and that he did not act upon them because he knew doing so would be illegal and wrong, according to the report.

“It’s a disturbing case, no doubt,” said Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner.

‘RADIOACTIVE’ BRIEFCASE

The authorities came to know Danao by chance.

His green, 1994 Ford Aerostar van had been towed from Easy Cool Storage,

142 Bluffton Road, on Feb. 29 to an impound lot on Simmonsville Road.

Pro Tow called deputies April 9 after its owner’s girlfriend noticed an open trunk sitting on the front seat. Inside, she could see an Internet printout of a child engaged in a sexual act with an adult, the report stated.

That accidental discovery probably kept local children from being victimized, Tanner said.

“I’m sure it has prevented a lot,” he said

While searching the car, a detective found a briefcase marked “radioactive” that contained vials of chemicals and other unknown liquids.

A State Law Enforcement Division explosives team determined the briefcase was essentially a bomb-making kit and that it had low levels of radiation, according to the report.

Instructions for making a bomb were found inside one of the notebooks, along with diagrams of a nuclear bomb and materials needed to build one.

Danao was unemployed at the time of his arrest. Police took him into custody at his sister’s home in White Oak Apartments on Haigler Boulevard in Bluffton. He formerly lived at Bluffton House Apartments until he was evicted in August 2007, according to the sheriff’s report. His mother also had a home there, but she passed away last week, the report said.

Danao, a native of Newport News, Va., reportedly admitted to investigators that he got the bomb-making chemicals from the Virginia hospital where he worked as a janitor in 2000. He told them he hadn’t been able to get the chemical mixture to explode.

Various floppy disks, CDs, pornographic magazines and printouts of pictures were found in his van and at his sister’s home, where he had been living for three weeks. Many of the items contained child pornography, according to the report. He told investigators he had downloaded the images and videos from the Internet.

The title screen of one video says “Produced and Directed by Paul Danao, starring various young kids.” Danao said he spliced together clips he found on the Web using video editing software.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with the FBI’s Innocent Images Task Force — which catalogs and tracks child pornography — to determine whether the images are new or if they had already been circulating.

Danao has a MySpace page that lists his occupation as “(part-time) taxi driver, (full-time) pervert.” Some photos of him on the Web site are entitled “serial killer” and there are references to crack-cocaine use.

A portion of the report suggests Danao might have been periodically living out of the van he bought from a co-worker at Kroger in Bluffton. Two managers at the store said they don’t recall Danao working there.

He is being held at the county jail while awaiting a bond hearing.

Danao currently faces two charges: second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of a destructive device, materials and components. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.

“My psychology and sexuality are transgressing — rapidly, I have become immoral and insane … I desire only children now, even babies …,”

Danao wrote about coming to terms with strong sexual urges for children and details plots to abduct, rape, torture and murder large groups of them, from newborns to middle school students, the report stated. He included drawings of a dungeon and instructions for making a bomb.

A Bluffton man accused of possessing child pornography and a “radioactive” briefcase containing a bomb-making kit faces two new charges for allegedly molesting two 6-year-old girls.

Paul J. Danao, 26, was charged Wednesday with two counts of performing lewd acts on a child.

One charge stems from baby-sitting a family member between October 2006 and April 11, 2008.

The second charge is based on his baby-sitting a second girl April 11.

“This guy was definitely disturbed,” said Capt. Toby McSwain. “It’s scary to realize that a guy with all of this going on was around us.”

Six weeks after Danao’s minivan was towed from a storage facility to an impound lot, the girlfriend of the tow company’s owner noticed an open chest on the front seat. Inside, she could see a picture of a young child performing a sex act on an adult, the report said.

Detectives searched the van April 9 and found a stockpile of child pornography and bizarre writings.

In his “Manifesto,” Danao describes having lost any attraction for adult women.

“My psychology and sexuality are transgressing — rapidly, I have become immoral and insane … I desire only children now, even babies …,” Danao reportedly wrote.

In another: “My victims get younger and younger, in the dark, their small bodies I plunder.”

Danao told detectives his writings were merely fantasies and that he would never act upon them because he knew it would be illegal and immoral. Plots to imprison, torture and murder up to 250 children at a time were unrealistic, he told the investigators.

Deputies also found a metallic briefcase in the van marked “radioactive” that contained vials of chemicals and other unknown liquids, according to the report.

A State Law Enforcement Division explosives team determined the briefcase was a kit to make a bomb and that one of the containers was slightly radioactive.

Danao has been in the county jail since April 12 on four child pornography and bomb-making charges. If convicted he could be sentenced to up to 55 years in prison.

Stanley R. Blodgett – Repeat Sex Offender At High Risk of Re-offending

Blodgett still has sexual fantasies about children, a psychologist who examined Blodgett for the state says in the petition.

For the third time this year, the state Department of Justice is seeking to have an inmate due to be released from prison and returned to Waukesha County deemed a sexual predator who can be held indefinitely.

Stanley R. Blodgett, 63, is scheduled to be released from prison on May 28 when his sentence is up for the sexual assault of a girl his wife was baby-sitting.

Blodgett was convicted in 1996 of molesting the girl between November 1990 and May 1991, according to court records.

The girl was 2 and 3 years old when the abuse occurred, and her parents became suspicious when the girl later began making sexual comments relating to Blodgett, court records show.

The state attorney general’s office filed a petition Wednesday seeking to have Blodgett labeled a sexually violent person. If the state prevails, Blodgett could remain locked up, possibly for the rest of his life, in a secure state mental health institution under Wisconsin’s sexual predator law.

In the petition, the state contends that Blodgett suffers from mental disorders that predispose him to acts of sexual violence against children and that he likely is at risk of re-offending.

The petition notes that Blodgett also has a history of exposing himself to children.

In 1963, he was arrested after he exposed himself to a child, the petition says.

Then on Aug. 30, 1968, he was committed to the Mendota Mental Health Institute after being convicted of indecent exposure in Waukesha County Circuit Court, the petition says.

In January 1981, he got out of his truck naked from the waist down and twice exposed himself to a teenage girl.

Also that month, he drove to a middle school and exposed himself to a group of girls, the petition states.

Blodgett still has sexual fantasies about children, a psychologist who examined Blodgett for the state says in the petition.

A hearing on the petition is scheduled for May 23.

Blodgett is the third inmate from Waukesha County convicted of sex crimes that the state this year is seeking to have labeled a sexual predator.

On April 1, the state filed a petition against Eugene W. Vahlenkamp, 71, that seeks to have him declared a sexually violent person. The Waukesha man was convicted in 1990 and 1991 of molesting young boys.

In January, the state moved to block the release of Brian J. Salentine, 35, of Waukesha. He was convicted twice of sexually assaulting girls, and the state wants him locked up indefinitely as well.
