Jason Paul Hunter – Internet Predator gets Life in Prison

A man who lured two boys through the Internet and sexually assaulted one of them has been sentenced in Reno to two life terms in prison.

Jason Paul Hunter must serve at least 20 years before being eligible for parole under the sentence imposed by Senior District Judge Noel Manoukian.

Hunter earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of lewdness with a child.

Hunter’s lawyer say his client was caught up in a fantasy when he placed an ad on the Internet site Craig’s List, posing as a woman looking to party with young men.

Authorities say the victim’s 15-year-old friend in November had e-mailed Hunter, whom he believed was a woman named Maria.

The boy told Hunter he was 18.

Posing as Maria, authorities say Hunter told him to bring his friend over to her cousin’s apartment where they would party.

Investigators say Hunter provided the boys alcohol, and sexually assault the 13-year-old boy when he passed out.

Todd R. Gavorcik – Repeat sex offender

Todd R. Gavorcik was awaiting trial on charges of molesting two boys in Groveport when police stopped him outside a Dublin elementary school in November and found child pornography in his car.

The 26-year-old North Side man pleaded guilty to charges in both cases today in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

He faces up to eight years in prison after being convicted of one count of gross sexual imposition, one count of attempted gross sexual imposition and two counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.

Judge John A. Connor denied a request by defense attorney Sheryl Munson to release Gavorcik until sentencing on April 23. The judge said he has a duty to protect the community.

Assistant County Prosecutor Brant Cook objected to the defense request, saying Gavorcik displayed “an impulse-control problem” when he drove outside Thomas Elementary School on Tuttle Crossing Boulevard with pornography in his car after being charged in the molestation case.

The guilty pleas mean Gavorcik must register as a sexual offender every six months for 25 years, the judge said.

Cook said Gavorcik attended a block party May 26 in a Groveport neighborhood, where he fondled two 10-year-old boys through their clothing. One of the boys told a parent, and Gavorcik fled when adults confronted him. He was arrested that day.

He was out on bail when parents and staff members at the elementary school called police to report that a suspicious-looking man was driving around the school in a white Pontiac, looking at children. On Nov. 15, Dublin police spotted the car and stopped it for a traffic violation with Gavorcik behind the wheel. Officers found binoculars and pornographic photos of children in the car.

Similar photographs were found during a search of Gavorcik’s home at 155 Broad Meadows Blvd.

The families of the Groveport victims attended yesterday’s hearing. One of the mothers told reporters she will push for jail time at Gavorcik’s sentencing.

Gavorcik attended the party with a family friend, she said. “A word to the wise to parents out there: ‘You can never trust everybody.’ ”

Gregory J. Rayburn – Teacher Molester BUSTED

A Rio Americano High School history teacher was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of molesting several children, Sacramento County sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Curran said.

Gregory J. Rayburn, 54, was taken into custody Wednesday morning at his Grass Valley home, Curran said.

According to officials, the alleged victims — two 17-year-old girls and two 16-year-old girls — were all students at Rio Americano.

The San Juan Unified School District teacher is in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a $120,000 bail, Curran said, and he faces 15 counts of child annoyance and two counts of sexual battery.

“Child annoyance is the inappropriate conversations that he had with the victims as well as posing the victims for inappropriate photographs,” Curran said.

Detectives said that Rayburn provided outfits for the photographs.

The incidents happened on campus, Curran said.

Curran said Rayburn was employed at Rio Americano during the 2006-07 school year.

Trent Allen from the San Juan Unified School District said Raymond has been on administrative leave since December 2007

Kevin T. Odette – Pedophile molested dozens of children

A Mt. Morris man accused of molesting dozens of children over the past 20 years will plead guilty to a number of charges and will face a minimum of 25 years in prison when sentenced.

Kevin T. Odette, 34, pleaded guilty Tuesday to six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13 years old, four counts of manufacturing child sexually abusive materials, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime and one charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He had faced at least 15 charges in three different Central District courts, Several other charges were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for his plea.

“We did not want these juvenile victims to be forced to testify,” said Assistant Genesee County Prosecutor Gladys Christopherson.

Attorney Mark W. Latchana, who represented Odette, agreed, saying his client took the deal “to save those victims from reliving their experiences.”

He added that prosecutors had “overwhelming evidence” against Odette.

Central District Judge John L. Conover scheduled a March 17 circuit court arraignment.

Christopherson said part of the deal is that prosecutors will not seek new charges against Odette and will take no position about whether Odette should serve his sentences consecutively or concurrently.

The cases involved boys and girls ages seven to 13. Officials said Odette knew all the victims.

The cases began when a relative reported finding child pornography when Odette was moving from Vienna Township to Burton last year.

Investigators later found 75 pornographic videotapes and more than 200 DVDs, and they believe he could have molested as many as 75 children from the Gaylord, Lansing and Flint areas. Police believe the sexual assaults occurred in Flint and Vienna townships during the summer of 2006.

Officials said several of the videos showed Odette having sexual relations with some victims.

Jon Joseph Rutherford – Repeat Sex Offender

25% of all sex offenders re-offend within 15 years

A registered sex offender on the run from police has been indicted for yet another sex crime. Jon Joseph Rutherford, 21, was charged by an Oahu grand jury Tuesday for six counts of sexual assault on a girl under the age of fourteen and one count of failing to comply with Hawaii’s sex offender registry law.

The indictment accuses Rutherford of two counts of sex assault in the first degree and four counts of sex assault in the fourth degree. He allegedly abused the girl during a twenty day span that began on January 11th and ended on January 31st.

Rutherford’s last known address is the IHS homeless shelter in Iwilei and people there remember him as a frequent visitor who would go to the shelter for food. “He was to himself,” said Marcelo Clemente, who spoke to Khon2 Wednesday morning near the entrance of the shelter on Sumner Street.

In the past several weeks Rutherford had been seen with a young teenage girl, who he would often take to IHS. “The girl used to come over here with him,” said Clemente, who believes the girl is 13 years old. It’s not known if the girl with Rutherford is the victim referred to in the four page indictment.

Other men outside the homeless shelter said Rutherford frequents Aala Park in Kalihi, Kakaako Waterfront Park and the Hawaii State Library on South King Street. After being shown a picture of the accused sex offender, a library security guard told Khon2 that Rutherford was inside the building three or four days ago.

Rutherford, who also uses the first name Ryan, was convicted last December of sex assault in the second degree after forcing a 15 year girl to have sex.

According to court documents Rutherford met the girl at the Pink Cadillac nightclub in September of 2006 and then continued the friendship through the website MySpace.com. Three days after meeting his victim Rutherford setup a rendezvous at the Pearlridge Shopping Mall and took the girl to a shed type structure in the back ally of Sears. He threatened the girl with rape if she refused to perform oral sex o him.

After the conviction, which included a guilty verdict for carrying a deadly weapon, prosecutors requested a ten year prison term Rutherford. However Circuit Court Judge Virginia Crandell sentenced him to one year in jail and five years probation. Rutherford was immediately released from custody because of time served in jail while awaiting the conclusion of his trial.

A warrant for Rutherford’s arrest on the new sex assault charges was issued on Wednesday. He is also wanted on a $25,000 probation revocation warrant that authorities issued February 12th.

Anyone with information on Rutherford’s whereabouts is asked to call police or Honolulu CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
