f288(c) LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH CHILD 14 OR 15 YEARS OLD

VICTORVILLE, Calif.—An 86-year-old three-strikes defendant has been convicted of possession of child pornography.

Ernest Edward Hansen faces 25 years to life in prison because of California’s three-strikes law. Child porn possession usually carries a maximum three years in prison.

The 86-year-old El Mirage man, who was convicted by a Victorville jury on Wednesday, had six prior convictions for child sex abuse.

Hansen will be sentenced March 13.

Steven J. Ahders – Repeat Sex Offender

A Schenectady fork lift operator accused of molesting a 6-year-old boy in his home last year now faces at least 25 years in federal prison on child pornography charges.

Steven J. Ahders, 29, was arraigned in U.S. District Court today on a two-count indictment charging he possessed and produced images involving the child.

Ahders was arrested at his North Brandywine Avenue home Jan. 15, just as he was close to completing a 46-month sentence on a 2001 conviction of carrying child pornography.

As a repeat offender, Ahders would face a mandatory minimum of 25 years in federal prison and as much as 50 years on the charge of producing the images. He also faces 10- to 50-year federal term for allegedly possessing the child pornography, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Spina.

Ahders pleaded not guilty to the federal charges before Judge David Homer. His attorney, George Baird, declined comment.

At the time of Ahders’ arrest, police seized a laptop computer and images.

Spina said the case also involved federal jurisdiction because the cameras allegedly used by Ahders came from outside New York state.

In Schenectady County, Ahders faces another potential 25-year sentence on allegations he molested the boy between January and July of 2007.

The charges include predatory sexual assault against a child, better known as “Jessica’s Law.” State leaders passed the law in 2006 to penalize the most heinous of sex crimes against young children. It was inspired by the death of Jessica Lunsford, a 9-year-old Florida girl killed by a sex offender in 2005.

Ahders is being held in the Schenectady County jail without bail.

WANTED: Albert Vanburen – Repeat Sex Offender

Sarah Tofte of the Human Rights Watch says 25% of all sex offenders
re-offend within 15 years

TACOMA – One of the state’s worst sex offenders is on the run after police say he stole a car and cut off his GPS tracking device.

Police say 26-year-old Albert Vanburen, a Level 3 sex offender, asked to test-drive an Acura at Tacoma’s Autos for Less. During the test drive, he allegedly pulled out a gun and stole the car.

Mark Pope was the in the car with him. He’s afraid of what Vanburen might do next.

“He had a sweater zipped down, he pulls out a gun. I didn’t honestly see the gun, but he pulled it out and pointed it into my ribs,” Pope said. “So I just walked out the car, and as I was walking out of the car he puts the car in drive and I just shut the door. And he drives off.”

Police believe Vanburen used the car to commit crimes before dumping it in King County.

They have issued two warrants for Vanburen – one for first-degree robbery and another for failing to report to the Department of Corrections. Vanburen was already wanted for failing to register as a sex offender after serving time for multiple counts of rape of a child.

“That’s a pervert who needs to be in jail – that’s what I think,” Pope said.

Vanburen is described a 26-year-old male with black hair and brown eyes, 5-foot-9, 168 pounds. Police records list his address as “homeless.”

“I hope he turns himself in. Running around like that will catch up to you someday,” Pope said. “You can’t keep running away from yourself.”

Tacoma/Pierce County Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to his arrest. The anonymous hotline number is 253-591-5959.

Jason M. Lee – PIMP – Repeat Sex Offender

Sarah Tofte of the Human Rights Watch says 25% of all sex offenders
re-offend within 15 years

Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Nadine Allen noticed a man lurking in the back of her courtroom as she was getting ready to send a woman to jail Tuesday for domestic violence.

When the judge stopped the proceedings to ask the man who he was, it started a conversation that led to the man’s arrest and the judge’s assertions that he may be preying on young women to run a sex ring.

“For 21 years (as a judge), I’ve been trying to catch a pimp and I finally did,” the judge said today.

She ordered Jason M. Lee 28, of Harrison, a registered sex offender, arrested in her courtroom and had him hauled to jail.

The story began with a 20-year-old standing before Allen on Tuesday to be sentenced for domestic violence.

The woman was accused of assaulting her mother and grandmother who, the judge said, were trying to keep her in the house.

“They knew that she was out there prostituting,” the judge said, adding the woman has prior prostitution convictions.

“This case involved her drug relapse,” the judge said.

When Allen Tuesday asked the woman who Lee was and what his involvement in her case was, the woman’s mother said Lee posted her daughter’s bond even though he was a stranger – and that he got his daughter’s name by searching the Hamilton County Clerk of Court’s web site.

Court documents show Lee posted the woman’s $100 bond Oct. 27.

“Jason Lee took her that day (her bond was posted) and forced her to have sex with his friends,” the judge said.

The friends, the judge added, then gave Lee money and drugs for the sex.

“My fear,” Allen said, “is that this guy has done this for other girls, posting bond for girls he finds on our web site.

“It’s possible that there is a sex ring going on.”

Hamilton County Sheriff’s officials, though, are confused.

Spokesman Steve Barnett said Lee was arrested in Allen’s courtroom yesterday but was that was for outstanding arrest warrants.

No new charges were brought against Lee as a result of the judge’s story.

Barnett said deputies couldn’t charge Lee with any new crimes involving Allen’s comments because the 20-year-old woman refused to cooperate with police unless the judge let her out of jail.

The judge sentenced the woman Tuesday to 180 days in jail, but refused to let her out.

When the woman heard that, she refused to give police information about Lee.
Lee was wanted for probation violations involving drug charges.

Lee is a registered sex offender, Allen said, because of convictions in 2000 for importuning and corruption of a minor.

Carl Culbertson Jr – Repeat Sex Offender

Sarah Tofte of the Human Rights Watch says 25% of all sex offenders
re-offend within 15 years

A convicted sex offender is back in jail after being accused of exposing himself to a teenage girl who was walking by his house, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.

Carl Culbertson Jr., 26, is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a charge of performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor, a Class D felony. He was arrested Sunday.

Culbertson is listed on the Vanderburgh County Sex Offender Registry for a sexual battery conviction in 2000.

According to the affidavit, a 13-year-old girl was walking the 1500 block of South Morton Avenue in late December when a man whistled at her from his residence.

The girl reportedly looked up and saw the man had dropped his pants and was fondling himself, the affidavit said. She reportedly looked away and walked home, later telling her mother about what happened.

Her mother then contacted police, who conducted an investigation that resulted in Culbertson’s arrest.

According to the affidavit, a detective accompanied the girl to the block where the incident occurred, and she pointed at 1508 S. Morton Ave. as the residence where the man had been standing.

That address is listed as Culbertson’s in the phone book and on the sex offender registry.

The girl also was able to pick Culbertson out of a photographic lineup of six men bearing similar physical characteristics, the affidavit said.

The victim’s name was not released because she is a juvenile.

Bond for Culbertson was set at $10,000 cash or $100,000 surety.
