WANTED: Dennis Buck – Registered Sex Offender

Police are hunting for a convicted sex offender found baby-sitting four young children — a sex offender they say showed at least one of the kids dirty pictures and movies.

Dennis Buck, 38, who was previously convicted of molesting his 14-year-old relative in Cuyahoga County, is wanted on two felony counts of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

The children’s mother, Sharon Sparks, 32, was arrested Tuesday on three counts of child endangering and a felony county of obstructing official business. She was arraigned Wednesday in Rocky River Municipal Court, and was released on a $7,500 bond.

Westlake police Capt. Guy Turner said the police probe began last month when school officials said Sparks’ children showed up to class in dirty clothes and with poor hygiene.

When officers checked her home, they found Sparks asleep upstairs and a drunken Buck “supervising” the children, ages 2, 6, 8 and 11, Turner said. He was charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication and released several hours later.

Turner said police soon learned that Sparks was Buck’s prison pen pal, and that he’s on probation. His previous convictions include felony burglary, drug possession, gross sexual imposition, abduction, attempted escape and failing to register as a sex offender.

She told police he was “the most caring person she knows,’’ Turner said, and that she was comfortable with him watching her children because she thought he had been framed for the prior sex crime.

“She thought she could mother him, apparently. That strikes me as incredibly naive. She has four children of her own, and she still thinks she can take on the welfare of a sex offender,” Turner said.

Turner said as police investigated Buck’s involvement with the family, they learned that he had shown pornographic movies and magazines to at least one of the children.

On Dec. 5, Children Services took the children from Sparks’ home, and Buck – who was still there – was told he could not be. He was seen at the home after he was given the warning,

but Sparks wouldn’t allow police to search it, Turner said.

Wanted: Howard Gail Gutendorf – Repeat Sex Offender

“It should be noted if a person knowingly hides, conceals or assists in any way to help the wanted person in avoiding arrest, that person could face criminal charges as well,” said detective Jeffrey Green with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. “If you know of the location of Howard Gutendorf please contact your local law enforcement agency.”

Detectives are searching for a wanted registered sex offender also accused of molesting a young girl in Wilsonville.

He is described as a white male, about 6′ tall, weighing 205 lbs, with grey hair and brown eyes. Gutendorf was convicted back in 1992 for other sex crimes in Jackson County.

William Bounds – Repeat Sex Offender

Bounds, who reportedly spent 21 years in a Massachusetts prison for armed rape, faces felony charges of rape and burglary.

Police continue to search today for a registered sex offender who allegedly raped a 70-year-old woman.

William Bounds, 48, allegedly raped and robbed the woman Wednesday in her apartment at the West Park Senior Center apartments on 27 West Second St.

“He had a knife and threatened to kill the woman if she didn’t submit to his wishes,” said Mansfield police Lt. John Wendling. “He didn’t cut her with the knife, but she was pretty shaken up.”

Wendling said Bounds, of 284 Chester Ave., entered the building through the main doors.

“They have tons of people in and out of there all the time,” he said. “It’s not very secure. The security thing is basically for nighttime and this incident happened at 4 in the afternoon.”

Wendling said the victim was taken to MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital and has been released.

Bounds, who reportedly spent 21 years in a Massachusetts prison for armed rape, faces felony charges of rape and burglary.

“There are now warrants out for him that will go out in all states,” Wendling said. “He is a registered sexual predator with us, which means he’s the worst of the worst.”

Wendling said Bounds has family in Mansfield.

“Investigators have been to the house where we thought this man was living,” Wending said. “There is someone living there, but it was not him.”

Wendling said police are unsure if Bounds is still in the area.

“He could be in Mansfield, he could be in Massachusetts,” he said. “We haven’t had any sightings, but we know who we’re looking for. We had some basic ideas of where he was at that didn’t pan out, so now we’re checking other places.”

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department sex offender search, Bounds is 5’9, 165 pounds and has scars on the right side of his neck and above his left eye.

To report information regarding Bounds, call Mansfield police at 419-522-1234 or Wendling at 419-755-9755.

George M. Leniart – Repeat Sex Offender

  • Leniart is a registered sex offender who was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl in 1996.
  • In 2002, he was convicted of risk of injury to a minor and violation of probation after police caught him in a wooded area of Preston with a 14-year-old girl.
  • In 2004, he was charged with raping a teenage boy over a five-year period in the 1990s.
  • State police have long suspected Leniart had something to do with the disappearance of 15-year-old April Dawn Pennington in May 1996 and have searched his property, unsuccessfully, for her remains.

A Montville man with a history of sex offenses against teens has been charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy who lived and worked with him over the summer.

George M. Leniart, 41, of 300 Massapeag Side Road is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court today on charges of second-degree sexual assault, illegal sale of liquor to a minor and sale of a controlled substance. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

The alleged victim told state police that Leniart provided him with marijuana, prescription medication and alcohol on a nightly basis.

State police have long suspected Leniart had something to do with the disappearance of 15-year-old April Dawn Pennington in May 1996 and have searched his property, unsuccessfully, for her remains.

State police Detective Michael Hoagland investigated the newest case after the alleged victim, arrested last month on other charges, told Hoagland about several incidents that occurred over the summer when he and an 18-year-old friend lived at Leniart’s house and worked construction with him. Details of the investigation are included in an arrest warrant affidavit in Leniart’s court file.

Leniart, who is on a strict form of release called special parole, has been charged with violations several times in recent years and has been in and out of prison. A Department of Correction spokeswoman said Tuesday that Leniart was not in prison between July 5 and Sept. 25. The 17-year-old whom Leniart is accused of sexually assaulting was released from prison on July 10.

The 17-year-old said that Leniart started acting “freaky” one night after two police pulled into the Leniart’s driveway. He said he and Leniart, who had been sitting in a car smoking marijuana, ran into the woods and hid until the police left. He said Leniart then drove to the Golden Hill Paugussett reservation in Colchester, where Leniart stored work materials in a trailer. He said Leniart took a brown box containing two assault rifles that he referred to as AK-47s and attempted to hand one to the teen with the comment, “Let’s go kill some cops.” The teen said he told Leniart he wanted nothing to do with guns or killing anyone, and he wasn’t going to prison for murder.

“After that night they went back to working everyday and partying like usual,” the warrant says.

Detectives searched several trailers at the Colchester reservation in early November and found no assault rifles.

Keith Allen Hoover – Child Molester – Guilty!

Hoover began molesting the boy, who was younger than 10, in 2003. Serafini said the victim’s family and Hoover came into contact through a church in Orange County, where the family had befriended him.

“The family reached out to assist the perpetrator when he was in need, and he took advantage of the family,” Serafini said.

An Atwater resident convicted of molesting a young boy in Orange and El Dorado counties was sentenced to a year in jail last week by an El Dorado County Superior Court judge.

Keith Allen Hoover, 46, pleaded no contest to felony child molestation charges Monday. He will remain in El Dorado County Jail and will have to register as a lifetime convicted sex offender after his release.

Hoover also was given five years’ probation and is subject to a variety of restrictions, such as staying away from anyone younger than 18.

Although Hoover has lived outside Merced County, he lists his address in Atwater in the 300 block of Center Street, according to court documents.

El Dorado Deputy District Attorney Lisa Serafini said Hoover began molesting the boy, who was younger than 10, in 2003. Serafini said the victim’s family and Hoover came into contact through a church in Orange County, where the family had befriended him.

“The family reached out to assist the perpetrator when he was in need, and he took advantage of the family,” Serafini said.

After the family moved to El Dorado County, Serafini said, Hoover visited their home, where he again sexually abused the boy.

“The family had moved up here, not knowing that this man was abusing their child,” Serafini said. “He was welcome in their home when they moved to El Dorado County.”

Hoover was arrested in January after the boy confided in a counselor from the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center, which provides outreach services to people who are victims of sexual abuse. Serafini said Hoover was working in the Orange County city of Costa Mesa at the time of his arrest.

The victim’s 45-year-old father, who was a church ministry leader, said he was satisfied with the sentence.

Serafini said it’s unknown if there are other victims Hoover has molested. She said she does not know if Hoover plans to return to Atwater after he is released from jail. He will have to apply to the El Dorado County Probation Department before he can be transferred outside of that area, and under the terms of his sentence he can’t leave the state.

“He never lived here, so odds are he won’t stay in El Dorado County,” Serafini said.
