Lima man to face trial on child porn charges

A 29-year-old Town of Lima man has been bound over for trial on child pornography charges that carry penalties of up to 300 years in prison, according to online court records.

Christopher A. Jolitz, of N2954 Sunset Drive, sold a laptop to a friend in late October without deleting numerous images of child pornography, according to a criminal complaint. He then deleted the yet-undiscovered images when he went to the friend’s house several days later, but did not empty the computer’s recycle bin, where deleted files are stored until it is emptied, the complaint said.

Wednesday, Judge James Bolgert ruled there is probable cause to believe Jolitz committed the crime and scheduled him to return to court Dec. 19 for arraignment. He remains in jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.

Jolitz was arrested Nov. 21 after a two-week investigation that began when the friend found the images in the recycle bin and reported them to police, Sheboygan police said.

Jolitz is charged with 20 counts of child pornography, each of which carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison if convicted. State statute mandates child pornography offenders be sentenced to at least three years in prison, unless the judge rules there are unusual circumstances.
