Anderson judge increases bond to $180,000 for accused Internet predator

A West Columbia man was told Friday that his $150,000 bond is to increase by an additional $30,000 after an Anderson City Police officer obtained two warrants, accusing him of distributing obscene material to a minor.

Randall Williams, spokesman for the city police, said 36-year-old Leroy Everette York transmitted images over the Internet of himself performing a sex act.

Friday in Anderson Municipal Court, Anderson City Police Officer Christine Cauthen told Judge Welborn that Mr. York made “web-cam transmissions to what he believed was a 13-year-old.”

During an initial appearance on Thursday, Judge Hugh Welborn ordered Mr. York held under the $150,000 bond after three warrants accused him of using the Internet in making a criminal solicitation of a minor from the city of Anderson.

Friday, additional warrants accused Mr. York of the distribution of obscene material to a person under the age of 18, resulting in the additional bond of $30,000.

Mr. York, now facing an $180,000 property bond, solicited sex on November 4 in an Internet chat room from an undercover officer, according to the incident report.

Mr. York was arrested at his home on Tuesday and is being held in the Anderson City Jail.

Officer Cauthen indicated on Thursday that Mr. York is also wanted by authorities in Greenville, Spartanburg, Mauldin and at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
